The wolf ripping off his tail and throwing it in the sea could, as I see it, symbolise that she will always have a part of him regardless of where she is (e.g. most end up getting a bucket load of advice/things from their parents before moving out). His tail is obviously quite important so I can only assume that he wanted to show how much she meant to him and vice versa.

The video's meaning was explained on a previous page if I remember correctly. The girl is a mermaid and the wolf has reared her since birth, but being a mermaid, she is drawn to the sea to be "free." Once older, the wolf realises, as any parent would in real life, that he can't look after her forever and lets her persue her destiny. The end.
