Hi whitericebunny, Thanks for your questions. You can use your favorite soup base. I used Knorr chicken soup base. If you use dried soup be sure to make it half strength because dried soup base is very salty. You can use canned or boxed broth full strength. For a full package of wonton wrappers I use 4 quarts of broth.

Did you put any water with the broth? How much broth did you put in the pot? Did you use a caned broth or a boxed broth?

Hi KCrenshaw09, The broth in this recipe is chicken soup base. You can use your favorite broth from a box or can, or make your own. The wrappers can be found in the produce section of most grocery stores or you can find them in an asian market.

Looks delicious. What is the soup(broth) made of? Where do you get the dough? Sorry for the questions, but I'm new to cooking.

You Could Add Bits Of Shrimp In The Filling If You Want To

It looks like a modified Chinese wanton. There are all kinds of variation.

I use chiken boullion which has more flavor than plain chicken broth. You can add your own flavors to the soup by crushing more ginger and garlic and mixing it into the meat before you make your wontons. The spices and the meat will add flavor to the soup. And, yes, you can add other ingredients as the filling. Chopped chicken, turkey, lamb, beef, and seafood all work just fine.

Thanks for the video. I can't wait to try this. But did you add anything to the plain chicken broth? I see online recipes for adding things like ginger, rice wine vinegar, etc. Also, I'm going to try to make the wontons with ground chicken as I don't eat red meat. Results should be the same. Thanks...

I guess you could, but you would be diluting all the flavor in the meat and spices that's inside the wontons. By boiling the wontons in the soup you add the flavors to the soup.

hm aren't you supposed to cook the wonton in boiling water first before you put serve it in the soup???
By: miyataco. on 14 Dec 08, 19:17:58
Thanks!

Hi miyataco! Not ignorant at all. Good question! The pork is raw when you make the wontons. It cooks very quickly when you put it in the boiling soup because each wonton has just a small amount in it. Just be sure to wait until the soup boils before putting in the wontons. One minute in boiling soup will cook the pork all the way through. Much longer than that and the wonton wrappers will get soggy and fall apart.

I realize this might sound ignorant, but is the pork raw at the beginning? Is it safe for consumption even though it was only heated for a minute?
