Badfinger performs No Matter What. Live vocals from group over backing track of LP version. Beatles signed them to Apple label as The Iveys. Start of Power Pop as every band plays this pop gem eventually.

The BCR CAN sing and play their own instruments and are talented. Les McKeown has an awesome voice! I feel this version is better than the BCR's, but I LOVE the BCR's too - it was the first version I heard. It's a matter of what makes you feel good, that's all.

Big Star was the finest power pop act ever, and deserved attention more than any of them, but they got lost in the shuffle, due to a lousy record deal. "Ballad of El Goodo" is the definitive power pop song, period.
That said, I adored the Raspberries! What a song this is! There used to be a link on an Eric Carmen or Raspberries page that featured then rehearsing "Tonight"...live! Omigod...

If the song had been around earlier, it would have fit in Cream's repitoire nicely, IMHO.
Clapton and Bruce could share lead vocals just as Molland and Evans do here.
Not to downplay this performance. It is smoking hot in every way.

John, it wasn't the ... By: itsfreetodream. on 23 May 08, 21:18:44 John, it wasn't the Wolfman's fault. They kept forgetting to bring the lighter fluid. They were simply very understated guys, for jazz-oriented, mellower, more mature musical tastes. Which is why I myself deserted them at 14 for the flashier likes of Yes. I probably missed this appearance precisely because no one like Yes was on that night. That's also why their appeal has grown for me now that I'm older. They sort of lurked on the oldies station, and then snuck back up on me.

Talk of the RRHF is ... By: sagittoo. on 28 Apr 08, 11:49:40 Talk of the RRHF is a nice thought but hardly realistic. Any group with "pop" overtones is not even considered by the "lords" of what is hip and sacred. This band get less respect than Rodney Dangerfield. It took the Vocal Group HOF in PA years before they inducted The Association. Yet, what does it matter. Their music lives 4 decades beyond the peak. What's this about a new website on the group?

What a sad story - a fantastic band ruined by a corrupt manager, who stole so much of their money and caused Peter Ham (who wrote this song) to hang himself. Hopefully they won't be forgotten.

They did not receive royalties for a very long time ...much of their royalties had become tangled up in red tape ,... and a lot of their royalty money vanished in the 70's approximately 600,000 that is accounted for and more that was unaccounted for...it was taken by their manager Stan Polley

I'll take Harry Nilsson's version over this any day!!!
By: rkjmd. on 11 Nov 08, 10:26:36
The original is still the greatest. But Nilsson saw the true potential of the song. He recorded it in the same studio where the Badfinger boys were working on their next album. Pete and Tom heard it and were blown away. I like the clipped Badfinger version, but the big Nilsson version has become the standard.
By: AS859. on 10 Nov 08, 15:17:57
To some degree true. But I guarantee most of the songs you like and enjoy have been re released at some stage or another? And as for this ignorant comment, 'people like this made nothing from this song,' have you not heard of royalties and copyright protection?

Mariah who? - Anyone who insists on having a carpet of rose petals laid from their dressing room to the stage thinks far too much of themselves! She should be thankful that people wrote songs like this in the first place. It's wicked that people like this made nothing from this song, whilst it just added to the millions that she has earned. Oh she looked so sincere and interested on X Factor tonight. - Yawn!

I hear this song and see the guys in the video, and I can believe the say it for real, or at least one of them once made this song from his heart, not like Maria Carey, overperforming, with too much feeling and fake expresion.
