Maybe you like voices that don't hit notes the way Geddy Lee and Jon Anderson do..it's a matter of taste...sadly the vocal mix of this version wasn't fare enough because the low voice is Steve Howe and the idea was always to blend the high voices of Anderson and Squire with the low one of Steve Howe...but Eddie Offord(sound) wasn't available enough at the time to give a hand on the sound recording of this tour and sound mixing either...that didn't help.

It's funny. I was heavily into Yes in 1974-75 and onwards. When Yes' "pop" 90125 album came out I was flabbergasted that they would make an album like that. Thing is I did get the album years after it was out and it's the only Yes album I still listen to today. It's sheer brilliance.

It's interesting that Anderson's voice here is far stronger and much more confident than in the "Soon (Live 1.975) clip from 1975. In fact, he had a hard time holding some of his notes in the earlier clip. For rock singers, it usually works the other way around!

There were some really good prog bands back in the 70s, Genesis, Procol Harum, PFM, Gentle Giant to name a few. And in the last couple decades there a couple that come to mind - Spock's Beard and Porcupine Tree. However, they are all a notch below Yes, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I really like the bands I mentioned above, and I listened to them a lot, but for sheer technical ability combined with feel, there's Yes, and then there's all the rest.

It is worth pointing out that the orignal recording of Siberian Khatru was recorded rubato, it's not obvious and barely noticable but the sections in 15/4 fluctuate in tempo from bar to bar...maybe they're trying to reproduce that, overly...but I doubt it. Something very messy is going on here - except Squire, as ever he's holding his own - but Steve Howe is really not holding it here, a shame because he's brillant, but Wakeman as well, listen to it absolutley RACING in his solo.
