Oh. You're in good hands with the rest of us. I felt exactly the same way.
By: HappyHolidays2All. on 19 Nov 08, 00:57:16
I got scared the first time I saw it due to the music and the brightening of the lights. I was only 3. It still creeps me out to this day.

It may be the creepiest of them all
By: LARDLOGO. on 25 Oct 08, 15:37:24
I am a employee there PS: They Moved To Brighton!!!!!!!! Don't worry it's somewhere in Boston but just not in 125 Western Avenue

so damn creepy
By: JayZer0. on 14 Oct 08, 22:11:14
The flickering 2 at the end of the most recent version is pretty crazy. It's like a "(No) Vacancy" sign at a dive motor lodge.
By: Wantabanana. on 09 Oct 08, 03:46:34
This reminds me of when I used to watch "Zoom" as a kid.
By: jas22. on 07 Oct 08, 17:08:34
this never scared me when i was a kid. i LOVE the music and could listen to it again and again. it would be great if someone incorporated that synthesizer "riff" into a song. but no, never thought it to be 'scary'. know what WAS scary on PBS in the 1970s? ill tell ya----> the bookworm skit on "the electric company". i dunno- the thought of a creature eating through books, unseen, just gave me the heebies.

The first one scares me
By: BigSCTVfan. on 04 Oct 08, 17:55:40
The original version is the scariest, in my opinion because the video seems completely ordinary, yet the synth audio is freaky, so it's the contrast that creeps me I guess. Whereas with the "Flash of Doom" the synth tone makes more sense in that context and doesn't seem as scary.

0:29, the music reminds me of the shortened "Boston Presents" logo
By: Tyquasia111. on 01 Oct 08, 06:45:23
I'm really surprised by some people's reaction to this. I can't even begin to see how this could be scary. Maybe orange and black aren't the most cheerful color combination, but c'mon. This actually brings back great memories of watching PBS as a kid, and in a weird way, it's still kind of cool looking. Try to imagine watching X-files at the tender age of four...THAT was scary.
By: jpsplat. on 01 Oct 08, 04:53:55
the one at 0:18. But I don't remember that noise it makes before it finishes, that bubbly thing.
By: cubsrule2040. on 01 Oct 08, 03:45:20
The synth tune was used since 1972, but the famous "Flash of Doom" wasn't used until late 1978.
By: cubsrule2040. on 01 Oct 08, 03:43:14
the '72 logo or the "Flash of Doom"?
By: donmccullen. on 28 Sep 08, 05:17:56
The WGBH indents were not a problem for me. One of KCTS in Seattle indents however was. Also the Viacom V was more frighting than the WGBH.
By: jpsplat. on 13 Sep 08, 03:52:05
That logo gave me the most horrible nightmares that I can remember when I was 5 or 6. I screamed when it came up and started to cry. Does any one else have similar memories?
By: ChetHollerin. on 11 Sep 08, 10:01:15
Seeing this takes me back to science class in the early 80's. I'm sure these intros have been around since the the late 70's. I'm glad they haven't changed it much. Nostalgia baby. Nostalgia.
By: sugarbeatkid. on 08 Sep 08, 23:01:56
do they have thirteen logo history
By: WhatsAYak. on 04 Sep 08, 11:46:04
I was around when this logo was used and didn't mind it...in fact, I thought the onscreen effects and music were pretty cool as a kid (hell, I still do!).
By: GingerGilligan. on 31 Aug 08, 13:23:56
It seems like what other kids thought was scary, I thought was cool and exciting. I loved watching the WGBH logo and thought it was funny that I could watch shows from Boston in California. I knew it meant something good was going to be on.
By: beckigreen. on 30 Aug 08, 23:49:41
footiecrazy19, you don't think its scary probably because this was before your time.

'Cookie Jar' 'did' Arthur. I am such a nerd.
By: GullahFan240. on 08 Aug 08, 16:54:26
5 and 6 scared me. 6 would go BOSTON at the end and I thought it was some creepy man in our TV. And 5 scared me because it was the PBS logo at the end like BOOM xD
By: noobalicous253. on 06 Aug 08, 15:41:15
Some Times, Rarely, just for the nostalgia, i break out the Arthur VHS Tapes. Whats the other companys that do arthur? The other one looks weird. 0_0
