I played lax all through HS as a vegetarian and was starting varsity, played two years in college (weirdo SW league). I'm currently vegan and train MMA 3-5 times a week for 3 hour sessions, including hard sparring. As a vegan, I am 200% faster and stronger. My first 2 amateur fights were both cake walks. I am 6'3 and currently 185, I eat primarily fruit, raw veg, and some nuts and seeds. I just dropped a weight class from 205 and feel even better. I wish I started this shit when I was like 18.

Vegans don't live on just salad and tofu (there are lots of hearty meals you could eat, just search vegan recipes on Google) and there are many vegan athletes. You may feel that veganism is impossible for you (and perhaps there would be more urgency in working out a perfect vegan diet for your energy requirements, there are always adjustments in the beginning and you would be afraid of falling behind) but it can definately be done and done well.If you don't WANT to be vegan that is another issue

im a division 2 lacrosse player and my whole diet is pretty much meat, I weight lift and run every day. For lax i have to run a 12 minute two mile and a 5:45 mile. I repped 300 5x in the weight room for bench this morning, im 5'10 190 pounds, theres no way that i could function eating salad and tofu, sorry.

I ate meat too and enjoyed it. I quit because it was not something I needed to do and it was causing great suffering and environmental destruction. When you quit all animal products you don't crave meat, I cannot stand even the smell of it now so I don't miss it :-)

The healthiest vegan diet you could do would not be expensive at all, staples such as rice and lentils and beans and vegetables etc are not expensive. Meh, I don't find that to be the case and I tend to treat myself to the whole lot, vegan chocolate, vegan butter, vegan yogurt, vegan milk. I'm currently unemployed and I can still easily afford it. Its only as expensive as spoiling yourself as a vegetarian (continental cheeses are not cheap, neither is organic milk) or omni (good quality meats cost top dollar too). You could easily be vegan without buying all the fancy stuff, and that is what I would do instead of going vegetarian personally.

I do not want to watch that video about animal slaughter because quite frankly (no pun intended) I do enjoy meat, but any form of testing on animals is cruel and I hate that. I don't think that reflects the whole of that organization and if it does, then that's wrong. I don't view using seeing eye dogs as a commodity, those dogs are not generating anyone profit and are being used simply as a lifeform to be killed and thrown away like an inanimate object. I'm not a PETA member but I sympathize with them. I'd say save the baby and kill the wolf if necessary. PETA's problem is the fact of viewing animals as a commodity. Basically viewing an organism with a conscience as something to use for profit. I think their main criticism is factory-farms (where most meat comes from), not Farmer Joe's family farm.

This video is pretty good. However, in my opinion, it's not necessary to condemn PETA and other hard-working, well-meaning activists. In my opinion, it's better to simply ignore them. They do it for attention, so don't if you truly don't like it, don't give them your attention. (Also, the video would be better if you hadn't referred to a calf as "it." I have no issues with individuals who choose to live as vegans. But I find it disturbing when they act condescendingly towards those who choose otherwise. Note to everyone: we are omnivores. An all meat diet will result in vitamin C deficiency while a strict vegan diet will result in vitamin B12, calcium and vitamin D deficiencies. (supplements can compensate, but not very well) And for the record, our brain development was directly correlated to adopting a diet rich in animal proteins.

Meat is not bad if it is REAL meat. Organic! Portion is a great contributor to societies illness. I like my cow, lamb and fish. And yes, Pork! Active people with a well balanced diet need not fear meat if they are buying quality product. This is a better option than going cold turkey on meat. The Shots and the diet of the animals is what is making people sick. Not meat itself. We are supposed to eat it. A non regulated vegan diet is more harmful. I think about going out and geting a burger every now and then. I just never seem to get around to it. Plus it doesn't hurt that I like vegetables. Even with out meat I still have a lot of choices as to what to eat. Also I still drink milk and eat dairy products and eggs. They don't fall into my reasons for giving up meat. I also started eating more east indian cuisine. It you like curry, which I do, you will find they have some good vegiterian choices.

I have just started not eating meat. My reasoning has to do with not hurting or causing pain to other life. I am not sure if eggs that are not fertile and milk fall into that reasoning. I liked meat. Part of me still does. I have dreams of just about eating hambugers. It has been a month now since I quit and the dreams just get more vivid. lol, I feel like I am trying to quit an addiction. lol I am unsure as to whether eating meat is wrong or not, I just feel it might be so I quit.

I am a meat eater. I love meat. Also, non-meat products go right through my system and I get hungry again in like 10 minutes. That being said - I try to eat free range as much as I can, and buy most of my meat organic to avoid growth hormones and the like. I also love Michael Franti, and it doesn't really surprise me he is vegan. But vegetarians do make it annoying to plan meals for outdoor programs trips. :-P

Just because VEGANS think differently does not mean VEGANS have a mandate on health. The main problem is not what you eat but HOW MUCH YOU EAT ! I just don't think Vegans should be told they aren't doing enough because every little bit helps and it's a personal choice. I think that right now getting any word out about animal cruelty is helpful. But I really do appreciate you sharing your opinion and will keep these comments up because of that.

While I see your point, the definition of Vegan is anyone who does not use or consume animal products. It does not extend to any other practices or personal philosophies. I admire you for not supporting anything that may even have the slightest connection to any sort of animal cruelty, but that's not easy for everyone. I don't know that any Vegan should be criticized, but rather encouraged to learn more. Instead of being harsh, I'd suggest making more of an effort to educate people.

sure it does, it has everything to do with different organizations, HLS, Mcdonalds, Burger King, I will not support that, why? because of animal cruelty, the same animal cruelty that PeTA has been a part of for a very long time, they say they dont support free range beef or cage free eggs, then they go and give Temple Grandin (who works on "humane" slaughter devices) an award.....how can anyone trying to live a vegan lifestyle support that?
