Saw the same show, and totally agree. Wish that The Sword would've gotten to use the un-dumbed-down opener sound set up. Down was way weak, wandering around yelling at the crowd or whatever...anything but actually playing a song. And Metallica were their monstrous crush your skull self. My favorite show of theirs I've seen in some years.

Saw these guys in Hilton Head last night. Heard the name but never heard note one till then. Horns up for anyone who plugs straight in to old school Orange amps without wireless or pick holders on the mike stand... I was a fan in 30 seconds. You guys Killed! Props too for Year Long Disaster who opened. Same straight ahead guitar war machine! Tempering is different from quenching, it occurs when the blade is reheated after being cooled, retaining most of the hardness while eliminating brittleness. actually it depends....it is done both ways. the curvature is gotten by the heating process and also it is deliberate ( hammered untill it curves). it depends on the era that the sword is made. and yes in some eras the sword is strighter then others.

Hate to break it to you guys but the tempering(cooling) process is how the blade is curved. The blade at rough shaping stage is straight. The next stage is clay covering ready for quenching. Because the clay covered part cools at a different rate, the blade gets the curve (sori). If you want to see the process and read more google "Paul Chen information". I don't know how many times the metal was folded over, but the folding concept creates a sharp, durable blade. A true folded blade is surprisingly flexible and hardly considered brittle. Swords and other blades like in the old days were made to slice soft flesh and other soft material with ease. ANY hard objects, including other blades will damage any sword blade. They aren't mythic indestructable weapons of legend, just very strong ones. Have some sense so you don't look like an idiot.

You can actually get a controlled curve with your hammerwork as you taper the thickness of the blade from back to front edge. As fungus6million said any change in shape you get during heating / quenching is unpredictable and not something you want to be planing on, (in most cases).

This is real. In 2003 I attended a symposium from his assistant in that period (Jan D de Groot). He also wrote a book about it. In that periode doctors etc also examined it. In 15 and i went to see wishbone, groundhog and focus at the leas cliff hall in folkestone and the bass player of wishbone gave me his PLECTRUM its purple 1.1+ MM a nice pic i play bass and now its all i use. but he didnt just chuck it in the crowd he came out to talk to the sound manager outside of the backstage area and i pulled him to one side and told him that i play bass and he said thats realy good and gave me his pic!!! i was floating on air after that!!! !!!WISHBONE ASH ARE LEGENDS !!

Saw 'em at Bickershaw festival in '71. Saw 'em again last night in MK stables. They're touring the UK on their 'Real Deal' tour. Eh? Well they they had to call it something I suppose ;-) Believe it or not they're *better*. OK the vocal ranges are knocked off a fraction. But the slickness of the guitar work and drumming .... I've seen this band more than any other, about 25 times at the last count over five or six years. Lineup changes, the lot. They're still awesome - guitarists obsessed with the newest, fastest shredders could learn something from these guys. They really did pioneer dual-guitar harmony and it's difficult to find anyone that betters them.
