This is true. Busted My knee up badly by doing them incorrectly on one heavy set. Lesson learnt.

Knees past toes depends on the proportion of your bone lengths. The key is to control WHEN the knee moves forward. It should move forward during the first 1/3 of the motion, then the rest of the descent comes from the hips. Where your knee ends up depend on bone lengths. The danger is letting the knees drift forward at the bottom of the squat (removes tension from posterior chain, increase shearing force on knee).

Yes, heavy squats involve a ton of stabilization. Overhead squats are the best for core.

when you let the knees past your toes you loose the ham tension put strain on the knees and turn a squat into a bad leg press

Don't let your knees buckle in towards your center or arch outwards. Towards center you may tear ACL & the other way you may tear PCL. Not good.

Work on your Achilles tendon flexibility- you have to keep your heels flat on the ground. Stick your butt way out & Keep your chest up. Drive through your heels! Hope this helps.

your feet arent supposed to be flat you angry bastard. your heels naturally rise unless you are leaning against a swiss ball against a wall. you should slip a level board under your heels so you dont wreck your knees.
