praise God! Trans fat is killing people. Now, about all those other chemicals in the foods. It is easy to say, don't eat this. The truth is poor people do not always have an option of what they can eat. Maybe they are not even aware of some foods are full of trans fat, like Romen Noodles. I have read many people are allergic to dyes in food as well. Actually, they are not allergic, but have a chemical reaction to the chemicals.

Nick- A Public Health Issue is not the same as Personal Lifestyle Issue. The government can inform us that too much chocolate cake is bad for you, but they can't stop you from eating it. It's a stretch to call them "dangerous", as if they would kill you upon ingestion. If people want to purchase foods without transfats, fine, but there may be certain foods that taste better with them. The food industry does not resist "change" by the way- only the change that YOU want to impose on them.

Nick- Unless you're living in the wilderness, you have more choices as to what to eat than at any time in the history of man. You literally have thousands of choices at any given time as to what to eat. Governments have no business telling us what foods we can and can't eat- it's just another power grab. Im glad we have the info on transfats, there's a difference between a government giving dietary recommendations, as opposed to dietary LAWS. Just try and find that in our Constitution.

The culture has developed in such a way that people often don't really have much choice, so I support banning foods that are clearly shown to be unhealthy, when more healthful alternatives are readily available.

I think Dr. M's enthusiasm will turn to more ranting as he finds out what the replacements are. I don't think restaurants are going to use coconut oil (expensive), or fish oil. Odds are that restaurants will go the cheapest route meeting legal requirements, and acceptable to the majority of their customers. From my reading, the most likely trans fat substitute will be soybean oil, and 80% or so of North American soybeans are genetically modified. Mmmm, soybean fried doughnuts. D'oh!

when he talks about compensating for the cf level of the tap water is he saying you need to add an extra cf level of 2 to you're nutrient solution. I.E for a cf level of 12 you would get you're go for a reading of 14 to make up for the dead salt reading of ordinary tap water

never start small plants off on tds any higher than 6. level of 10 or 12 is too high. let the plants tell you if they need more nutrient. start on 6 regularily checking tds of your tank, when the tds drops you increase nutrient. if it drops from 6 to 5 increase to 7, if it drops from 6 to 4 increase nutrient to 8. continue until you reach tds of 16-18 no higher. too high and your plants just suck up water the nutrient becomes concentrated and does more damage
