My dad lives about 5 minutes away from Dolly Parton, or about 20-30 min away from Pigeon Forge where this was shot. If you get a chance, go to Dolly's Dixie Stampede. Besides seeing these AMAZING musicians, the Stampede is a fun dinner and show. Dollywood is fantastic too. If you buy your tickets after 3 pm, you can come in using the stub the next day! Once inside, prices are low. We ate a steak dinner with potato, drink and salad for 6 bucks.Dolly really gives back to the folks in the region.

I made this bread this morning and it is fantastic even though mine was just a bit underdone with baking it at 500 for about 40 minutes and 450 for 20. Next time I will bake it longer. Should I bake it longer at 500 or 450 or a combination of the two? Also, I have seen the videos of the NY Times No Knead bread and they don't let the bread rise a second time after folding it. They pop it right into the pre-heated container. Why do we need to let this bread rise after folding it over?

I got inspired watching your recipe, so tried to make bread for the first time today...in my solar oven. I used 1/2 cup flour only, since it was an experiment. The only other thing I added was a little all purpose flour, yeast and salt. After rising all night, I baked it in my solar oven, but took it out too soon and it was still kind of gummy. Since it looked like pizza crust, I cut it in two and toasted it. It was absolutely delicious. Next, I'll try a full recipe and include oats.

Excellent video. I can see that if you were real concerned about ingredients, freshness, no preservatives, additives, etc. that you would get into this. I'm sure it is superior quality to most, if not all, store brands. I would think the steel cut oats would be too crunchy seeing as how you need to cook them a long time in water to make oatmeal. I might go with rolled oats, but I see you are going for best quality ingredients. Don't break any teeth though. dkw

Good cakes. He used vanilla ice cream whey. I used nonfat vanilla yogurt and backed off the milk for thicker cakes. My personal changes: Vanilla nonfat yogurt, use 2scoops of whey, back off slightly on the milk.. and next time I'll back off on the wheat, maybe a 1/4c. Replace with more oats (grinding oats in a coffee grinder turns it to flour). This will get the protein content higher.

I tried something new. Steel cut oats cooked in a solar cooker. They are the best I have ever tasted. What I did was basically cook them about 4 hours until they were done, then reheated them in the solar cooker the next day with no refrigerator in between. I cooked them without the reflectors so the temp. stayed at 160-190 F. That way I didn't have to do much except move the oven a couple of times. I made a huge pot...5 servings which is 1 plus 1/4 cup dry. Better than nuking.

Not everyone posts, but I have been getting schooled bya few friends who are part of the true steel cut oats cult. So there may be an "advanced steel cut oats" video coming up. I stand by the way we did it, even with the peanut butter option. But here's what I'm learning. Cook it on a lower heat and stir as little as possible. When you stir use the handle end of the wood spoon. And a portion of that water can be milk. I tried it. 3 water to one milk. Fluffy. Awesome.

Absolutely. Some of the best foods for a person are really inexpensive. Oats, rice, beans, etc. You can spend a lot of money for hype, fancy packaging, organic, and the so-called value-added products, but I strive for simplicity. I picked up some donuts at Walmart the other day for my daughter's sleepover. Got there at 7 am just in time for them to throw away hundreds of old donuts...that they were selling one min. earlier...straight into the trash. What a waste.

I make mine in the microwave using 1/2 cup of the oats, 2 cups of water which I don't need to measure cause it just fills the bowl, nuke for 6 min. then let it set overnight. In the morning, I stir and reheat for exactly 3 min. on high and they are perfect. They never boil over and the whole process takes me less than a minute of preparation. Since I eat 6 servings of oats a day, I've become an expert at cooking them. I don't use salt either.

You are so right musicians and groups don't make music like this any longer, this music had soul and it had meaning, it was beautiful and it was fun. The music of the past ten years has no heart, the youth of the last ten years or so can't think of anything interesting to write. It is as if they stopped handing out talent and imagination.
