I think the DOS music is far, far better. It's simpler but purer. There's something wrong with the .mid songs for Windows, there's an annoying bass beat that really shouldn't be there throughout many of the songs. Oh well. SC2K rules anyway, arcologies are awesome. BRING THEM BACK FOR SC5!

This game is essentially Abandonware now, and is available for free on the internet, just google 'Simcity 2000 Abandonware'. Whether that is legal or not is debatable, but I highly doubt Maxis will bother taking action against you for taking a game that is worthless nowadays.

I never actually really got to play this game... I got it in some kind of "family fun mega pack" thing for Christmas and it came with a bunch of other games (a lot of those games didn't work though or were crap). The disks were different and such... I dunno why, but, nothing would ever get built. I was doing everything right with power and water, but NOTHING would build, so, I think it's safe for me to say it was a glitched disk... Stupid "family fun mega pack"..

In the Civilization and Space stages you have a free zoning camera. So while you can't look directly into the actual buildings of the city, you can see the plaza/the outside area, and also citizen versions of your species wandering around and making it look rich and detailed, that will scream and run around under attack and watch space ship launches and other such rubbish etc. etc.

Looks like you can completely change your creature instead of actually evolve slowly, it'd be better if you had to upgrade like 1 or 2 things, not the whole creature at a time... just my opinion.

Some ants use seeds shaped by their mouths to dig tunnels and actually know how to farm fungus and can experiment with different types of farming. Many birds use tools in very cratively and certainly not preprogrammed ways (have you ever seen a crow try tons of ways just to get at a bit of food or something else they want?) and parrots are not just repeaters- they can form new words and concepts (although it's a very limited capabilty to do so). BTW, I'm enjoying this chat too. :)

If you want to escape asteroid impacts and other large natural disasters, then yes, you need technology. Life before even 18th century technology (vaccines, sanitiation, etc.) was very hellish (even somewhat for the rich- castles were a great place to catch disases). Besides, the Native Americans had much more technology then most people think nowdays, and so did the colonists. And, BTW, many animals DO have culture (not as big as ours, but it's still culture).

If I'm not mistaken, I'd say this sort of looks like that old game Impossible Creatures, just this game give you more options of play, and a larger variety for creating monsters/animals. I'm getting the game tomorrow, so I can't exactly describe the game yet. I have the full Creature Creator, and to tell you the truth, it is really fun to think of random animals and such. 5/5, and can't wait to get the game!

And it is the best phase. It's still eventually get's repetitive though. Interaction with the environment is minimal, terraforming planets is repetitive, alliances with other nations feel scripted, and the combat is really weak. Spore is great for creative people that want to demonstrate their skill with a program, but it's just not a great game. It's weaknesses could have partially been excused if there was a multiplayer component. Maybe Wright wants to make money of an expansion!

at E3 2005 regarding the Creature Phase, we expected more. That's all there is though... Tribal Phase SEEMS better for a bit, but when you realize the formula to success, you get pissed off. This is what you need to do: -Hunt animals so you won't starve -Max your population -Give you guys spears -Right click on enemy base... Civ Phase is the same as Tribal. You need to: -Max vehicle limit -Appease strongest ally -Attack all enemy cities Space should be the best phase as it is the longest...

The Cell Phase had some positive aspects, but in the end, it's too simple, too short, and can best be labeled as "potentially good". Creature Phase really starts to suck balls. I'd say it's the longest phase next to Space, and for me, it's the worst. All you do is spam clicking to kill other monsters, or to befriend them, time button presses. Spore actually ended up being a really poor game. The editors were great, but the application of your creatures, and the execution of the game play was poor. My gripe with the editors is that part placement only matters in the Cell Stage (even then, it's minimal). Other than that the editors are perfect, save the lack of some weapons for the vehicles. The game play on the other hand is absolutely terrible. (Continued in next comment)
