On May 9th 2007 Baby Kaleb was hospitalized after being shaken by a caregiver. Suffering a severe case of Shaken Baby Syndrome. This is a true tragedy, and my heart goes out to his family. I made this video in honor of baby Kaleb who I pray for every day, and I do hope this brings more awareness about Shaken Baby Syndrome. NEVER SHAKE A BABY!!

Thanks for commenting. Kaleb is doing fantastic and has improved quite a bit. He had his first birthday back in November. And the Schwade family is thrilled to have been able to celebrate the new year with thier precious miracle by thier side. I was watching one of the other videos of kaleb, and i started to crying. Just having a baby in febuary myself, I can't begin to imagine what this family is going through, but I do know that I would never be able to go through life with out my son. I don't believe in god but, I will pray for kaleb and his family, for the strength and courage to live on. Also extra for little kaleb to continue to get better. The woman who did this to Kaleb was his daycare provider. She got out of jail on a $5000 bail but she is being charged. Kaleb is doing fantastic. Pray for his continued recovery and for justice to be served.

I believe Kaleb will have the will to live. I love little children and babies and it is horrific that people do this to such innocence. I am pulling for the little man. I also want to let you know that I feel for his parents. I think all parents should do background checks on everyone they want to help care for their children. No parent should have to go through what Kaleb's parents are going through. I wish Kaleb and his parents the best and I give them mmy love.

He is getting huge though! Right now he weighs 30lbs. It is getting so difficult for me to do anything being this pregnant and uncomfortable. Not only does he weigh 30lbs but his wheelchair weighs 36 lbs! That is a total of 66 lbs that I have to lift at times. I have been reduced to tears because all the lifting has become so difficult. The doctors always said that Kaleb would be a big boy!" That is directly from Kristy, Kaleb's mother!! Aug 2008 update!!! :)

He has come such a long way in the last year! His head and neck have become so strong that he can hold his head up for a good 10 minutes. He knows what he is doing because he gets really excited and talks in Kaleb's language really loud as if he is saying "Look at me mom!!!". He makes Josh and me so happy! He has the cutest personality!

What he has is called Cortical Blindness which is caused by trauma to the brain. Kaleb will be starting Vital Stem soon. This is electric therapy to the muscles in his throat to help his swallow. He has been doing really well with eating baby food. His favorite so far has been Pear Pineapple. I figured out that his neck is now strong enough so that he can sit in a Space Saver High Chair. Praise God!

At this last appointment the doctor dilated Kaleb's eyes and did a whole bunch of tests. I was amazed because Kaleb was actually pushing her hands away from his face and fighting her! I was laughing because I have never seen him do something like that and it was great to see him react so strongly against something. The doctor said that she has no doubt that Kaleb sees light, dark, and shadows (outlines) but is still considered to be blind.

"Kaleb is doing awesome! He had his eye appt this past month and that went well. His retinas no longer have blood in them from the shaking. Last year in october his retinas still had a substantial amount of blood in them and they were unsure if it would ever go away so this is great news. This makes his eyes fully functionable. The only problem is the part of the brain that interprets the message is very damaged.

my son was 17 months old he was almost killed he was beaten punched in the face w/ a cast & put on life support they said he wouldn't live 2 c the morning & asked me if I wanted 2 take him off LS i said NO! 3 days later he he was home. In 20 days he will be 8. Besides the scars on his face has made a full recovery. My heart goes out to ALL babies that are abused and also to the parents. my god bless Baby Kaleb and all other babies and to the ones that god has taken from us R.I.P.
