You definitely have the best HAM videos on YouTube. As a new HAM I've learnt a lot from watching you at work and just wanted to say a huge thank you.

laughed my chair off at 11:38 where you are waiting to see if the camera starts rolling. I love you and your clips- you could without a doubt make a lot of money if you were to affiliate with someone. Please don't do it! I love your noncommerce approach to things! Norway

The FT-817 is and interesting radio. I have done over 1000 miles per watt and have work 2500 miles on 6 M SSB with the rubber ducky antenna. I would not recommend the FT-817 as a first and only radio. With the current state of zero sun spots you will need more than 5 watts to get started. The FT-857 is very similar to the FT817, no battery but 100 watts on HF. I have both, and they both have their place in operation. Randy

By: 1027sterling. on 04 Aug 08, 00:53:43
Great video! Also, something that makes recieving more interesting is to note the call signs you see and enter them in the search at qrzDOTcom.
By: zoolkhan. on 23 Jul 08, 08:27:58
dont know digipan, but mixw can lock on to the signal and readjust if the sender or receiver drifts. You should be able to even use vintage tubereceivers that way.
By: K7AGE. on 11 Jul 08, 12:52:45
Give it a try on receiving to see if the radio's frequency is stable enough. If the radio drifts, it may not be able to stay on frequency. PSK needs a fairly stable radio. Randy

Thanks Randy, that really clarified things for me. So, PSK31 is basically the HF version of Instant Messenger? It's like Yahoo messenger in as far as your texting back and forth, right? Can you store "canned" messages so you don't have to type the same messages over and over?
By: englere. on 02 Mar 08, 23:49:35
Great job explaining how to use Digipan. The idea to play back a youtube video to use Digipan on our own computer is brilliant.
