I saw this show as a kid and loved it. I've been re-watching the series .. and i just wanted to say the bloopers are hilarious .. thanks for posting. All the fun they had during filming was certainly visible in the series ... all the characters had great chemistry.

He auditioned and got the part. I don't think the producers were even aware he was British from his audition tape (which incidentally is available on YouTube). Beyond the accent, whatever your issues are with it, Hugh brings a lot of other elements the character.
