I like my 500GB external (not a pocket-sized portable) HDD which I got for under $100 (I think). Its home is on a shelf perched above my desk and I use it to back up my laptop every few days. It's unplugged when I'm away even though I use a really good surge protector. I made the mistake of not backing up a computer before. An external HDD is MUCH more convenient than burning backup disks. Everything is backed up and organized in one device.

If you are going to buy something that big, i suggest getting a divx player/case combo. You can buy hard-drives separatly and watch videos directly on your tv. It's pretty much the same casing as the reg. hard-drive case. It would be nice to see a shootout of the smaller usb cases

Wait don't you have an Ipod classic laying around or some other hard drive mp3 player? That the way I carry large files when I have to. At home I have two external hard drive for my data. One 300 Gb for my PC and one 700Gb for my PS3 media center. I use s LaCie 700gb USB for my ps3 and a Comstar NDAS drive that was a pain to install but is faster than regular USB 2.0.

I have to agree it works pretty darn good! Okay not sure if I really have a use for it but after setting things up and finding out how to log in the webGUI (last time I tried to run this NAS..erm I forgot to check the webGUI) I was pretty much solidly done. Allot of different options and settings, ways to protect your shares etc! So far I have no need for a NAS but hey it runs nice..

My artist name is Leafchild, and I found a great program that can convertyour MIDI audio files into 8-bit style sound. For example, on my band profile I made a few songs of mine into MIDI filetype, and then you drag and drop and instantly, you have an 8-bit version of your file. For those of you who don't know, 8-bit is old Nintendo style sound. If you're into that sort of thing, look into. It is called GXSCC and has been translated to English. It doesn't have perfect grammar, but its still fun.

hey chris, one thing koblo a cant do( that audacity can ) that i really like is record audio output. that way anything you can find and listen to or watch you can record and take the audio from. such as music or soundtracks. its a great tool. but i really do enjoy koblo for mixing a editing. The only problem with Orange vocoder is that it needs a VST host program like cubase cos it is a VST (Virtual Studio Technology) pluggin. It will take some learning to get it to work but I'm morethan happy to help if you have any problems :)

You could use a pitch feature that should be in any audio editor or if you want to sound like a robot, then you would need a piece of software/hardware called a vocoder. Orange vocoder is a good software vocoder :)

you know... I used to hate this lockergnome character but that ron paul sneeze was l33t. I'm a graphic artist and one huge thing he failed to mention is your computer needs to be up to par... drawing with a tablet is sheer hell on earth for an artist if your computer is stuttering at all. I'd reccomend doubling up on memory because youll most likley be using Photoshop which is a memory hog especially when working with larger files. Anyway... yeah. Give me that tablet you bitch.

I'm all platforms. Have been running since CP/M, DOS, Win3, NT, 2k, XP, OS9, OSX, FreeBSD, Ubuntu, etc. It's Vista that I won't touch. There is nothing worse than a "critical warning" on your TV set. Wether it is a security issue or a something as simple as a daylight savings time change. Fail!

FYI I'm not acting high and mighty I'm just stating facts from my windows experiences. i used to run windows and Ubuntu but windows craped out on me and never booted back up so (as if i ever needed it) i never installed it on my pc again and don't intend to. i have had bad experiences with windows there for i use linux cuz i like stability. windows has most the market cuz they buy out most the OEM's not cuz it is better. it is about time linux and unix OS's get there due.

your trus in what you say, but mac does seem to do more for it's user base than microsoft does, the latest apple release came with 250 new features (granted you'd probably never use them all) and what did vista come with, a huge price tag, 4 different versions, and about 3 new features that dont really do anything helpful. and there's the fact apple (and linux for that matter) are built on unix coding which makes viruses difficult to run)
