You're right, the Arabs did spread outside Saudi Arabia, about 900 to 1000 years ago. Plus, you seem to forget it was after WWI when the westerners split the Middles East into different countries like Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and Kuwait. i think it has to do with lack of exercise and not eating healthy vegetables and fiber (which not only keep you full, but provide vital trace minerals to keep many of the enzymes in your brain and body working). the food in this country really takes people prisoner because it gets harder and harder to do exercise, which in turn makes you lethargic and unmotivated and even unhappy. i do agree that there must be some genetic component, but i think that eating and exercise are pretty big factors
