ok i have t-mobile (currently) use to have verizon, cingular, and sprint. verizon was probably the worst network i have used, cingular was WAY to expensive, cant complain about sprint. they were pretty good as far as call quality and application like mobile tv, and so on and well t-mobile wins hands down. and yes it is safe.

It seems to me that Ubuntu is a great jump towards standardizing the Linux operating system. And each year, Linux gains more and more users. But of course at this point in time, its still difficult for most lay users to grasp. Its not yet something for the masses. But looking back through the years at the evolution of Linux and seeing how far it has come, I believe it will one day be a contender. It will just take a good deal of time.

I actually dual installed ubuntu 8.10 with my windows the other day on this machine to give it a test and its a pretty slick OS. As a person who has a bit of a distain for vista im waiting to see if Windows Se7en is any good, so until then i'll be juggling between XP and linux.

because it's FREE! And people will not pay 4 or 5 hundred for an OS when they can get Ubuntu or another user-friendly nix distro for free. Its all about timing and trust microsofts not going anywhere. They got a head start thats a bear to compete with, but their market share will drastically go down in less than5-8 years. Maybe sooner if manufacturers package their shiny laptops with ubuntu and ship them off to stores, which is inevitable. Remember, open source saves them money too! roi cop

Well it wasnt for everybody. It was made by the govt, and branched off like a tree from their by many experts and other govt and commercially funded programs. And whether anyone even knows it, its running more than half of everyone's technological life, and half the internet's networking servers alone. to the the guy who said you shouldn't have to know how the iphone runs in order to use the phone--- don't you know that Mac OS X 10.3 (i believe, may be 10.4) is a unix 3 compliant os that runs a unix kernel (and yes, thats the os that the iphone runs)? Thats the thing, unix is only as gritty as you want it to be, other than that it's just solid as hell for stability, and pretty damn good security-wise. Oh, and it has hella performance.

So why is Linux the shit? Because it's free? Because you can customize it? How much programing and or inter-workings (under the hood) knowledge do you need to know just to get a program installed that isn't packaged for your build to run and work? You shouldn't need to know from a circuitry point of view why & how an iPhone works when you want to use it - just that it does when you turn it on to use it - and thus the reason why Linux is not popular and for main stream.

Dell is first major one , not to mention Asus with eee/motherboard, MSI, and HP surely have Linux variants on their machines. Only problem for now is that Computer manufacturers are trying to sell their computers for the same price as those that include Microsoft royalities for Windows.. Linux-preinstalled computers should and can be lower priced with same hardware included, then Windows one.

heres a tip for PC users. just dont upgrade to windows vista yet just stick with your current os. you can upgrade to vista until service pack 2 is released cause my friend is experiencing some errors/problems when he upgraded to vista just like the xp after it was released it had problems too but the problems were fixed until the xp service pack 2 was released

The most important thing in security is that there is no such thing as being totally secure (unless of course your computer is not connected to the outside world at all). All these security measures are what we call Defense in Depth. They allow different layers of security to make it difficult (but not impossible) to break into. So any security measure is better than nothing, even WEP because chances are most people won't know how to break it, unless they're into security and such.

No. MAC isn't an IP. A MAC address is a unique number that is used for wireless cards. A MAC address never changes, unless you "spoof" it. Spoofing a MAC address is not hard at all. (Even my WRT54GL router can do it... with the default firmware)

This guy doesn't understand wireless security. If you're not an expert, don't answer the question as if you are. All of the methods he listed for securing the wireless network are only effective against people who possess little to zero wireless networking knowledge. Home networks are most easily secured using WPA2 PSK and using a long and strong passphrase. Do not bother disabling SSID beacon because it provides no benefit against an even moderately skilled intruder.

Widescreen is good for games who actually SUPPORT it, but like me, I like to play older PC games, it makes those look gross. If the app is widescreen then I can take it very easily. I fit all of my apps to work around my Vista Sidebar so I can still see that easily, and with many websites slowly converting over to widescreen (Youtube anyone?) My monitor will be set for that. Also widescreen is very friendly with IM boxes. Once I get a different video card I might get dual monitors also.

I just bought a 20" widescreen monitor for my laptop. It works very well in audio and video editing, and reading text in full width is rather pleasant. I like to resize my browser window to full screen height * half screen width. That way I can get a more vertical view of the pages I'm browsing, and it also leaves some space for the desktop or other programs, if I need to do some drag-n-dropping, for example. I haven't had any negative experiences with this monitor.
