You pour boiling water over a few strands of saffron. You can buy saffron at any spice store but it is one of the most expensive spices in the world - around $40/oz. The good thing is a little goes a long way.

tried this method.chicken masala got burned at the botton and stuck to the pan.rice did not cook completely.i think one needs lot of experience to make biriyani in this way.pakki method(cooking rice and masala separately and steaming it together in layer) will be good for beginners :)
