My favorite riff is a toss up between the one you mention, and Pushit between like 4:20 and 9:00 (or just the rest of the song!) That takes the same kind of mellow baseline and odd timing signatures and then really builds it up into a balls to the wall rock out. To gamesith who said this defines tool, I believe my selection of Pushit does a better job of that. :) "Remember I will always love you as I claw your Fucking throat away. It can end no other way." Damn.

APC and Puscifer are probably as close as you can get to sounding somewhat similar to TooL. some other great bands that also have the ability to capture that certain "depth" and personal connection are Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Led Zeppelin captures the instrumental originality and mind-shattering composition that TooL has shown us and Pink Floyd has the deep lyrics and eerie "dark" tone often found in TooL songs.
