The reason why the US is in the middle east is to establish a form of governance that can quell the tide of islamic extremism because it's unacceptable that that part of the world, with their copious amounts of wealth (oil), could be ruled by radical leaders who have openly expressed their intent to nuke Israel and other Western societies. In the name of world peace, it's a necessary thing that had to be done.

As a combat vet, I empathize with Mr. Johnson and respect him for what he has gone through. However, I do not agree that we should continue this war in Iraq. It has nothing to do with honoring or dishonoring troops. We didn't get into this war so that the troops could have honor. And they will not be stripped of any honor if we bring them home immediately.

what else do you have apart from the media then?
By: aavelas. on 17 Apr 07, 13:22:48
Well, I'm glad the media isn't all I have. Thanks again for the naive comments.

Unless you have personally witnessed most of history aavelas, then the media is all YOU have also. I like to listen to every side before I make criticisms. Many of the supporters that I have heard so far refuse to even acknowledge the overwhelming amount of corroborative evidence as well as legitimate questions concerning many matters with connections to this administrations actions to cover-up or, in the least, not respond to valid concerns, not limited to the war effort.

Wow!!! I sure am glad some of us aren't afraid of taking the war to our enemies. We already saw what they can do if we sit on our rears and wait. I only wish people would study up before making naive comments based on the media's representation of war. War is not a pretty thing; if you think we should retreat because of casualties, then maybe you don't understand war. I'm thankful a solid majority of those fighting support the effort to defend our freedoms that so many of us take for granted.

Its too late Johnson, this is your new Vietnam. One with no real plan, and no hope of ever ending (israel/palestine). We have, in our foolish attempt to forcefully reshape the world into our image, done nothing more than kill innocent lives that knew none the better. So many casualties of this war that you continue to change the reasons for when one after another is debunked. No more excuses. No more lives.

a coward because they are 2/3+ of american people who don't support the war? if it weren't for we lefties to balance you out, we'd be a fascist nation
By: earlowink. on 03 Apr 07, 18:50:35
you are a coward!
By: psychrofon. on 01 Apr 07, 04:21:15
Nancy did not put soldiers in harms way, it was Bush and Rumsfeld (with all of their war experience) who decided to invade a sovereign country with no plan. Harms way includes 4 years of war, poor armor, crappy Humvees, and working on the afterplan while the war is on.

When has any American spit on a veteran from Iraq or Afghanistan? We're against the war, not the people who are being forced to fight it. Wonder how much money this guy is getting paid by defense contractors...
By: carbon143. on 29 Mar 07, 04:27:41
Support the troops means support the empire. How can the troops be supported any more than now? They take fifty cents on the dollar of EVERY tax dollar. Americans are going into WAR POVERTY for their deficit war spending. GET OUT ! GET OUT NOW!!
By: jahbreeze. on 27 Mar 07, 00:32:26
this guy's a douche. we don't belong in iraq. anyone concerned with the well being of this country should know that our money, time, and lives are better spent at home.

Sam Johnson is what I call an American Hero! God bless him!
By: trackster0803. on 21 Mar 07, 17:32:33
Bravo Congressman Johnson. Some of these comments concerns me. 9/11 was a pre-emptive strike, just like Pearl Harbor was. This country was attacked without provocation and warrant by radical fundamentalist muslims. I am in Iraq on a police mission and believe me the insurgents that these wonderful US military personnel are fighting are the same. Iranians are here too. Fight them in Iraq and not at home. Let's win this war. Our children and grandchildren will thank us for it.
By: Lucid8te. on 20 Mar 07, 04:14:19
We are far far away from a success over in Iraq. Showing support to the troops would be choosing not to send troops into harms way for no reason. Afghanistan, Suadi Arabia, and Iran are where the real enemy lies. Instead we try to break up a fight between 3 Muslim states that has been going on for over 45 years.

AMEN! I am a proud Army wife and stand behind my husband and support all our troops. May God Bless them and bring them all home

Bravo and thank you Congressman Johnson R-TX. You can tell from this debate here that the media and 'god damn trash damnrats ' pandering to the 3rd grade mentality of liberals of this nation is working. What a bunch of braindead idiots. Do the rest of us a favor, stay in school and never join the real world where hard decsions and sacrifices have to made to protect this great country!

Ok...I was pretty sure Clinton didn't want our guys to be at the mercy of the UN... And who deems whether a country is "willing and able" to prosecute? This is a good institution for war criminals and the like...but it is not going to be used as an anti-American outlet. We won't go along with it, and no one will make us, it's that simple. We handle our own problems, and if the ICC doesn't like it...too bad.
By: GETALIFEPEOPLE. on 28 Feb 07, 01:22:01
Clinton approved it, and signed the treaty (the 'Rome Statute'). It was George W who renegged on Clinton's committment. Further, the ICC has no jurisdiction where a country is willing and able to prosecute. It only kicks in where the country refuses to do so, or can't do so, so on your argument, the ICC is no threat. Further, the USA was instrumental in the creation of the ICC, and then when George W came in, you walked away from it.
By: acstas87. on 28 Feb 07, 00:16:37
No,a law without enforcement is paper (see: the UN.) Doing the "right" thing is not surrendering authority to weak, corrupt bureaucracy, it's doing what we feel we must. It was dumb and I HATE the bandwagon idiots here who wanted war, but in the future I prefer for us to protect our interests and submit to the will of weaker nations.
By: acstas87. on 28 Feb 07, 00:13:44
The ICC is just a way for anti-American sentiments to be acted on by other nations and I am glad that Clinton refused it. We prosecute our people when they get out of line for multiple reasons, and we don't the need the UN to do so for us.
