At this point China ... By: monkeetime. on 11 Jun 08, 01:58:25 At this point China HAS heavily invested in Tibet, with economy growing every day and new transport links bringing it closer to the world. In most ways people in China have it better than North American natives 58 years after their invasion. It's time to move on. No amount of protest will get the Europeans back to Europe. It's all done there.
Same for China and Tibet.
In fact, if people want peace they should promote ethnic similarities, not differences.
Burn all flags.
Since Beijing stook ... By: monkeetime. on 11 Jun 08, 01:55:44 Since Beijing stook control of the region (or country, if you will) they did a lot of nasty stuff to the local people. But that cannot be undone, much like the US government's actions towards the natives cannot be undone (same for Canada, Australia, and many others).
Western media are ... By: monkeetime. on 11 Jun 08, 01:49:38 Western media are pushing the Western agenda, and they are pumping out a lot of lies and distortions.
But the Chinese media are also pushing the government line.
Both sides in the issue have invested in vigorous flag-waving and rampant nationalism bordering on stupidity. In this case neither side can be trusted and one must do own studying.
In the end, whether Tibet was a part of China or not is quite irrelevant. Today it is a part of China as much as Alaska is part of the USA.

Great analysis. By: aimeeish. on 13 May 08, 21:42:36 Great analysis.
