Subwoofer At School
Posted by: 31Orcas
Video duration: 132 seconds
This is a video of the very loud Mackie SWA1501 subwoofer with two Mackie SRM450's, at the school's Halloween dance.
The Mackie subwoofer has a 15" driver in a ported enclosure, and puts out around 125 DB's. So this is some of the loudest bass I've ever heard, in the mid 120 DB's.
It was really fun, and the bass was crazy! (The mids and highs were loud too).

Homemade Subwoofer Update 2

This is a short video on how my subwoofer looks as of November 16, 2008. I forgot to mention that the surrounds really feel like leather, even though it's made of duct tape.

By: 31Orcas. on 08 Jan 09, 00:32:08
You had a DB meter, or is that a good guess?

I've heard that... but really it takes several days at about 110 Db's to cause noticable hearing loss. 110 Db's is a loud snare drum, to give you an idea. I probably lost some hearing, but probably like 1%. It takes levels of almost 140 Db's to noticably loose some hearing after about two hours. But I can still hear the T.V. at volume 1 at night, so I'm fine. Also, the lower the frequency, the more DB's you need to effect your hearing, so that's another advantage of bass!

anything passed 112 db causes ear damage.

In the U.S. there is no DB limit I know of for clubs, but I beleive 120 is the limit for music playing in public.

Lol, in the UK I think they might be limited to something like 80 db for legal reasons. One is that it doesnt desterb everyone lol, and for people ears. Sad... :( ..... but oh well. It doesnt suprize me if its pulling 120db out as its a horn loaded. Yea, bass is nice lol. :D

Oh yeah, and they had snacks outside and they won't let snacks in the auditorium. Here, were I live, people like music louder than a club if they can get a stereo that'll be capable of it. So I don't think that more than a few think it's too loud.

It was very loud, but not ear bleeding loud. For me, I'd rather here loud bass than overall loud music. They are professional DJ's, so they know how loud they can turn it up without damaging our ears. Also, dances only happen about 5 times a year. I went to the third dance of the year yesterday.

Hey, I bet it was pretty impressive, however isn't 125db a little to loud for a school disco. Wasn't your fault of course, but here in the UK, nearly all of the mobily DJ's dont even have speakers capabil of 100 rms, not including a sub. It makes me a laugh how most of the people are outside probably because its making their ears bleed xD

I just got back from another dance. I would've liked to see those subs at my school's dance, with this one.

And I heard that 110 can make you def after a week straight of music... It's harder to make some people def than others. It's really weird, but if I listen to loud music, or loud bass, I think I hear bass better than I used to. I just recently noticed than in a nearby Little Ceasar's pizza place, I noticed a really deep, about 30 Hz, constant rumble coming from the vibrating windows acting like subs (I don't know what's vibrating them though, but I touched the window and I felt it vibrating).

If you like loud music, you should get a Logitech Z-2300 2.1 for your PC. Or you can get a Logitech Z-5500 5.1.

No, I haven't been to a club. This is the closest to a club that I've experienced. But you live halfway across the US from me so... I don't think I'll go there any time soon. Do you think you've lost any hearing? And BTW I have earwax in my ear for about an hour or two after I get out, so it's pretty loud, and I'd guess that it's pretty close to 125 DBs. The club you go to is at about what DB level? 130 is rock concert loud 140 is hearing loss loud 150 would make you def in a short time
By: andyb0x. on 04 Nov 08, 06:14:27
lol yoou obviously havent been to a club... the club i go to gets their audio imported from the uk. it literally moves the drinks on the table, its so loud that in the bathroom the mirriors and doors rattle so loud you cant hear eachother. and when you leave your ears ring for 2 or 3 days. if your interested in going (its in houston) message me and i can send u their website
