Cooking recipes are just guides that a simple housewife or an expert chef can use. They are the outline that can precipitate the meals to be served. Being able to read and follow a

recipe is an essential skill to puting delicious meals on your table.  If you find this a hard concept to digest, here are a few simple tips to get you started:

1. Read the recipe through several times before starting any cooking project. Familiarize yourself with the ingredients required, the cooking terms and the process in general. For a

dish to turn out well, you should be able to understand the recipe and the process required.

2. You should also have all of the ingredients and cooking tools at hand before you start any cooking project. Preparation is a key factor in a successful recipe being carried out.

Gather everything together on the counter in front of you before starting the cooking process. If you can’t find an ingredient, find a suitable substitiute and carry on.

3. If there are any ingredients that require preparation beforehand, do them now.  For example, chopping onions, shredding cheese, opening cans, etc.  This will make the process go

much smoother.

4. Don’t rush! Just follow each step of the recipe as directed keeping an eye on the time so you don;t over cook anything. If you haven’t prepared the recipe before it is best to follow

the instructions closely the first time.  You can always make adjustments, if needed, the next time you make it.

5. If you are not familiar with certain cooking terms or methods, such as simmer, browning of meat, sauté, stir, mix, fry, etc. look them up ahead of time in a good cookbook or on the

internet. Getting acquainted with these terms will ensure the proper results.

6. As your cooking skills improve, you can begin tweaking recipes with your own ideas.  Alter the ingredients or amounts of certain ingredients to suit your family’s tastes.

Cooking recipes are very useful guidelines for new chefs. Not every recipe will have award winning results, but if you stick with it you will produce a few impeccable dishes everyone is

sure to admire.  Keep in mind that your purpose in learning how to cook and following a recipe is to produce healthy meals your family will enjoy eating and you will enjoy creating!
